Our Story

Carey and I have known each other since we were four and five years old. In a small town like ours, that is not uncommon. My mother in law was actually my kindergarten teacher! We went to the same elementary, middle, and high school together and as we got older, our circles would sometimes overlap.

Fast forward a few years past high school graduation to an early morning meal after a night out. I was out with friends and stopped to grab a waffle and hash browns on the way home (what’s better than Waffle House at 2AM anyways?). Carey was there with his best friends and I casually spoke to them. After that night, I received a friend request on Facebook from Carey (thank you social media!). We started chatting and getting to know each other via messenger and that eventually led to exchanging phone numbers which led to our first date (Mexican food!) which led to the first year of dating eating some sort of Mexican three times a week… and ultimately the meal we shared the night we got engaged 🙂

We were married on May 12th, 2012 in our hometown in a gorgeous church ceremony. We had our reception at the local boys and girls camp and danced all night long. After a few days at the beach for our honeymoon, we were back home and ready to start our life as husband and wife!

Kids were always in our future but we knew we would have struggles. After several years of doctors appointments, we were lead to adopt. You can read about our decision to adopt here. We have always been close to the kids in our life and we have looked forward to having children of our own to love and nurture one day.

Carey and I have been together for six years now, married for three. Everyday, I am so thankful for him and grateful he is my husband. He makes me laugh and keeps me focused. We cut up and play, we love our dogs, and we love to travel. Card games and binging on Netflix are our favorite things to do. He keeps me grounded and I loosen him up. He’s the yin to my yang, the peanut butter to my jelly. We just fit together and there is no one else I can imagine doing life with. I know in the bottom of my heart he will be a great dad and I cannot wait to raise a child with him.

But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” – Ruth 1:16
